Characters Name: Amberpaw
Clan/Group: Nightclan
Gender: She-cat
Age: 6 Moons
Rank: Apprentice
Family/Mate:
Father- Whitefire: Deceased
Mother- Cloverwing
Uncle- Cloudsplash
Grandfather- Blackfang: Condition Unknown
Grandmother- Rainfur: Deceased
Appearance:
Despite having parents who both have strong genes; Cloverwing being pitch black while Whitefire was frosty white, Amberpaw is nothing like her parents. With a rich coat of heather, her pelt is a beautiful golden hue with faded sandy stripes. Delicate white paws barely brush the ground, and while she is average sized for a warrior, her bone structure, unsurprisingly, is delicate and fragile. Bearing an otherwise average height, the pretty young cat has her mother's eyes; a striking blue that holds a mixture of silver within its gaze.
Amberpaw, though not at all similar to her parents, is often said to have taken after her grandmother on her father's side; a handsome tom with a well-groomed coat of golden fire. Amberpaw is used to praise due to her lovely fur and agreeable personality, and it is only when she is alongside her mother that her luxurious pelt is ever ruffled.
Personality:
Even if Amberpaw is the absolute opposite of her parents in appearance, her personality isn't all that different in some ways. Most of the time though, Amberpaw is level-headed and calm. A quick-thinker, she is fast to catch on and learns at a rapid rate. This is a trait she shares with her uncle, and maybe one of the reasons the two got along so well. Not only is she intelligent, but the thin apprentice is also quite the loyal friend. To her, the Warrior Code is everything, and she believes in Starclan more strongly then she relies on food and water to stay alive.
A hope-filled, inspirational cat despite her young age, Amberpaw never lets anything bring her down, and her favorite times are spent smiling with her friends. When speaking, she can be rather straight-forward and hard-headed if she disagrees with someone, but otherwise she grows very enthusiastic when it comes to topics she's interested in. With a sweet nature that doesn't let her abandon cats in need, it is this and her bright appearance that often make her seem like a misfit in Nightclan, though in truth she gets along very well with any cat that doesn't remind her of her mother.
Though charming and good-natured, when facing Cloverwing, Amberpaw loses all sense of self-control and will lash out verbally at the she-cat. Inside her, there are many bottled up feelings of confusion and betrayal that the she-cat has not let out, therefore whenever is faced with her mother, she tends to unleash them all in one blow and the arguments between the two can often become so heated that one or the other ends up spending the night outside of camp until someone fetches them. So simply hate-filled is their relationship that most cats don't mention Cloverwing around Amberpaw and vice versa, and if the apprentice brings up the subject herself, most cats find it best to just go along with what she says, for she tends to forget who she is talking to when her thoughts are clouded by her controversial mother-daughter bond. While filled with rage to wards her mother, it is quite different for her and her uncle. Amberpaw looked up to Cloudsplash like the brother she never had, and maybe even as a best friend, and many cats often speculate to wards whether Amberpaw is that different from her mother. After all, Cloverwing treated Cloudsplash more like her best friend than kin, and Amberpaw did the same too before the tom vanished. As you can imagine, his and her father's supposed deaths took their toll on the she-cat's heart, and her already tense relationship with her mother snapped at that point.
Past:
It was a half-moon on the night Amberkit was born, and it was lucky that nothing went wrong with her birth due to the Medicine Cat being away. Rather than Cloverwing having a litter, Amberkit was the only cat to appear in a bundle of golden light, and her father Whitefire, though hot-tempered as he was, adored her and treated her like his princess. Amberkit was spoiled rotten by her father, and often she didn't bother too much with him due to the fact that his 'hear and obey' attitude reminded her too much of an over-protective dog and gradually bored her. As if her father's clinginess wasn't enough, her mother hardly payed any attention to her whatsoever. And when she did, the black she-cat simply disregarded her as a scenery prop, and so it was with Cloudsplash that Amberkit found most of her time spent up.
The two got along splendidly, and Cloudsplash taught his beloved niece everything he knew. The kin understood one another like clouds and the sky, and they were never once seen arguing. In fact, if their clan hadn't known better, it would almost seem as if Cloudsplash were Amberkit's parent rather than the dismissive Cloverwing and the overly-daughter-sensitive Whitefire. Cloudsplash made Amberkit feel comfortable, as though she didn't have to worry about being a nuisance to her mother or being stalked by her slightly-obsessive father. Of course, Cloverwing was slightly agitated by the attention her brother payed to her daughter instead of her, and Whitefire grew jealous of the friendly relationship between his daughter and 'brother-in-law'.
It was only at the mere age of 1 moon, during New-leaf, that Amberkit first learned the feeling of fear. It was one of those rare days when her mother was paying attention and decided to groom her, when suddenly the black cat began choking. At first Amberkit thought her mother had swallowed a hair ball, but everyone was taking it so seriously and she didn't understand what was going on. The next thing she knew was that her mother was in the Medicine Cat's Den and she was left alone in the Nursery. Terrified and cold, she cried all night until Cloudsplash was finally sent for, and the tom kept her company until she finally fell asleep.
The next morning, Amberkit was told that her mother had simply choked on a furball, as Amberkit had thought. Worried and feeling guilty, she apologized to her mother who simply told her to stop making a fuss. And then, in the first display of obvious affection, Cloverwing nuzzled her kit and let her sleep at her side. Amberkit napped the whole day away without a sound even after Cloverwing began complaining about the she-kit being heavy and keeping her from getting food. When Amberkit awoke, her mother had brought her back to the Nursery, and though she went into a heated rant about why no one had woken her up and how she could've slept the entire day away, she didn't really regret that one special moment when she'd actually felt she like had a mother.
Half a moon passed, and Amberkit's father began leaving camp time after time. Though everyone but Amberkit seemed to know why, the information was never shared with her, and one day when she just hit the age of 2 moons, her father didn't return for an unusually long length of time, and so her mother and uncle went out to look for him. The golden kit begged to come along, but she was rather harshly ordered to stay in the Nursery where another queen babysat her. Hours passed with no response, and then finally Cloverwing returned to camp with empty eyes. Amberkit rushed out despite the queen's protests, and she ran over to her mother only to be ignored as the black cat walked right on by and straight to the leader's den. Amberkit, startled and bewildered, was ushered back to the Nursery where the next day the entire clan was informed during a meeting the she-cat attended that both Whitefire and Cloudsplash were dead. It was after that, Amberkit was never quite the same.
At the time in her life when she needed her mother the most, Cloverwing, in her own shocked grief, pushed her daughter away and took moons to herself to recover. Amberkit, her mother's situation being understood by the clan, was put under the care of the queen from before. It was at that moment that the she-kit's relationship with her mother turned sour and hit rock bottom. Even after Cloverwing recuperated and began watching over her kit again, she found that her daughter had developed a spite-ful side towards her, and was suddenly extremely eager to verbally abuse her mother. Cloverwing, an easily offended cat, didn't make it any better by arguing right on back, and the two's relationship got worse from there on.
Even after being made an apprentice and surrounding herself with friends, Amberpaw has never forgotten the time when her mother abandoned her to care for herself, and it is this traumatizing sense of betrayal that has caused the she-cat to detest her kin. There is no saying if she will ever forgive her mother for dropping her in her time of need, and whether Cloverwing has or ever will realize the dire mistake she made back then, still remains untold.
