The clearing was empty as he headed out of the warriors den. He inhaled the sweet brisk air. Leafbare was one of his favorites. The sharp cold air helped awaken him and help him realize that today was a new day. A day that you could make into your own. He glanced at the fresh-kill pile. There were no freshly killed prey what-so-ever. So off to the Hunting Grounds he went. It was his favorite place to hunt, especially during Leafbare. The trees were covered in snow making quite the winter wonderland. He wanted to hunt, yet he felt as if he was there for more then that.

Shadowstar stalked around the hunting grounds, looking for some prey to fill up the empty fresh-kill pile. Suddenly, a mouse ran out of it's den and practically right into Shadowstar's unsheathed claws. In a second, the mouse's life was over, from a swift bite on it's neck. Shadowstar send out a wordless thanks to Starclan for this easy meal, as he dug up earth to store the prey in.
"Darkcloud!" Shadowstar called out, picking up a strong scent of his deputy. "Out hunting too?" he asked. "We really do need to stock up on the empty fresh-kill pile. Could you organize a hunting patrol later?"
Note: It's Newleaf, not Leafbare. D;

ooc: sorry, i thought you went by the calendar, spring isnt until march 22nd
Darkcloud jumped at Shadowstar's voice. It was like thunder. His head snapped din his leader's direction. "Yes, I am," he replied. He always remembered who he was speaking to. To be polite, and he usually was, even to those who disrespected him. "I would love too," he answered. He knew that hunting would get easier. As the sun melted the snow and the prey became more plentiful. He was a bit excited to go and check out the boundaries. He wanted to see the new life StarClan was unleashing.

A soft rustling from nearby brush and the scent of a fellow cat announced Emberpaw's approach. She struggled into the clearing, nearly tripping over the sizable rabbit hanging from the young apprentices jaws. "Shndewstaa..." She attempted to mew around the mouthful before giving up and dropping it. "Look at what I caught! It was fast, but no match for me!" The she-cat had obviously had quite a scuffle with the rabbit before she had managed to deliver the final blow. Her usually sleek fur was ruffled and littered with heather and twigs, but her eyes were bright with excitement.
Emberpaw turned toward the cream and gray tabby, bowing her head in greeting. "Hi, Darkcloud."
((Hope you don't mind me posting if. Just ignore if so, but I figured since it was open...^-^))

Shadowstar nodded respectfully to his deputy, getting ready to start hunting again. Pricking his ears, Shadowstar listened silently for the quiet sounds of prey scurrying around in the bushes. Suddenly, he spotted a mouse near the base of a tree. He instinctively crouched down into a hunters' crouch and began stalking slowly toward the prey. Out of nowhere came the sound of Emberpaw boasting about a plump rabbit she had caught. Unfortunately, the mouse had heard, and it ran towards the safety of it's den. "You scared away my prey!" Shadowstar growled to Emberpaw. "And probably every other prey in this area too! Be more quiet next time."

Darkcloud saw the prey the apprentice caught. He was pretty impressive. Then again its New Leaf. All the prey were getting larger and larger. Even the cats were beginning to become larger. The effects of Leafbare are almost over. He smiled. "Hello Emberpaw," he greeted the apprentice. He looked at Shadowstar and heard his rant. Although it was true, Darkcloud believed it was easier to not scorn others. He just kept a smile on his cheeks and pretended it wall all okay. He cleared his throat. He tried ot listen to the ground. He couldn't quite feel it yet. Leafbare always did this too him, and at the beginning of New Leaf the effects stayed.

Emberpaw visibly winced at Shadowstar's chastising. She flattened her ears and ducked her head. "Oops....sorry Shadowstar."She said in a much quieter voice. She looked appropriately reprimanded for a few more moments before looking up at Darkcloud. "Can I join your hunting patrol? I'll be as quiet as a mouse." She added, hope gleaming in her emerald eyes.
Emberpaw had not spent a lot of time around Darkcloud, but from what she had seen and heard, she liked the deputy. He was always polite and as fair as he could be to everyone. Her ears twitched at the sound of birds nearby. Obviously she wasn't -that- loud, or they would have flown off.

"Yes." Shadowstar meowed, in answer to Emberpaw's question. "Let's head somewhere else, most of the prey is scared off." Shadowstar twitched his tail, his apprentice should have known better than to barge in right while hunting was going on. Her mentor, obviously wasn't being strict on her. He'd have to work on that. Shadowstar shook his head, trying to clear his thoughts. Then he turned around, leading the hunting patrol to an area with more prey.
Shadowstar walked swiftly and quickly, pricking his ears and looking around for a good place to hunt. He stopped when he neared the huge pond, which had many herbs growing around it. "Let's hunt here." Shadowstar said quietly, not wanting to scare off any prey.

"I would love to have you come along," he added. He knew that Shadowstar had already answered,d but he wanted to get his words him. After all the question was directed towards him. Darkcloud nodded and followed Shadowstar. He looked at his surroundings. He smiled. Newleaf was turned out to be wonderful. He looked at the sky. The sun was out, but there were a few storm clouds in the sky. He wondered how long it would take for them to arrive. He loved rain though. It was wonderful to run around in it and just laugh and horse play. Although he didn't look like the time to play around, the rain brought it out of him.

Emberpaw purred at Darkcloud, pleased with the enthusiasm and turned to follow Shadowstar quickly. She knew Shadowstar was annoyed with her, but she was sort of getting use to that. The young she-cat was slowly learning how to read and judge her mentor's mood. As long as he wasn't really angry, she was okay even though she was likely to hear about it later.
She glanced curiously at Darkcloud as he looked up to the sky. Her emerald gaze followed his. "Hmm, rain..." She said quietly to herself in a not-so-enthused voice. She didn't care for rain. It made her look like a drowned rat, not to mention cold.
When they reached the lake and Shadowstar said it was time to hunt she dropped immediately into a crouch and stalked off. It didn't take the apprentice long to pick up the scent pigeon. It was just a few tail lengths away, picking at the shore lazily. She crept forward, pounced and delivered the killing blow. Ah how she loved Newleaf!

Shadowstar glanced curiously up at the sky as everyone else did. There were a few dark storm clouds, a storm might be coming. Shadowstar made a face at the thought of rain, he hated it. It would always get in his fur and make him feel very uncomfortable, and cold.
Shadowstar looked back down at his surroundings. Newleaf was a beautiful time. There were chirping birds, luscious green herbs growing, and flowers all around the peaceful pond. LeafBare was finally gone, except for the odd patches of snow that hadn't melted yet.
Shadowstar quietly stalked forward, weaving his way between bushes and trees. He pricked his ears up while he crouched down, listening for the familiar and very faint sounds of prey. After a while, he finally heard that familiar sound. It was coming from the base of a tree, not far from where Shadowstar was crouching. The mouse there looked very plump. It probably wasn't like that in LeafBare. Shadowstar stalked forward very quietly and carefully. He pounced at the right time, and quickly killed the prey.

Post by Rainheart on Mar 19, 2010 13:01:38 GMT -5
Rainheart crawled silently along the floor, his belly brushing the dirt and paw-falls silent as though he was walking on a cushion of air, his whiskers quivered as he scented for prey amongst the undergrowth. Something moved up ahead and his ears perked, it seemed small so maybe a mouse? He swiftly sneaked over keeping his eyes fixed up ahead. His claws flexed and his tail tip twitched as he prepared to strike, the rodent leapt from its hiding spot in a brown streak and rainheart pounced using his fall weight to crush the little mouse and kill it.

Her paw falls were silent as she walked onwards, the terrain she had found herself in seemed unfamiliar than the usual frost clan territory, the trees in the forest seemed to have thinned out. She lifted her nose instinctively then cursed as there were no scents, not even the strongest of smells could penetrate her damaged nose. Shrugging she carried on walking, she couldn’t have travelled too far. Noises up ahead piqued her interest and she trotted over to a bush crawling underneath it to peer through to the other side, she saw a few cats seemingly hunting and she froze, these cats were not from frost clan.

Darkcloud saw another cat join them. He nodded his head to greet the cat. He smiled. Now it was his turn. He closed his eyes. He could feel each set of paws padding on the floor. He now felt the smaller ones. Finally he was regaining the feeling of the earth. He took in a deep breath through his nostrils. He could smell a plump vole near by. He focused on the ground once more. He felt the paw prints of the vole touch the ground slightly. Darkcloud fluttered his eyes open. There is was. The crouched and crawled slightly forward. he pounced onto the vole. His teeth sunk into its pelt. He snapped its spine instantly killing the prey.

Emberpaw picked up her pidgeon and carried it out of the little clearing next to the lake. She found a push to hide it under, digging a little whole in the ground and scrapping dirt back over it. The young she-cat observed her work, nodded to herself and then turned to pace a few steps away. She parted her jaws, allowing the scents to flow over her glands, and was thrilled when she immediately picked up the scent of another prey...mouse this time.
Emberpaw turned to follow the scent, making certain to step lightly. She was closing in on the little rodent when another scent caught her attention. It was a cat, but not one she recognized. The red marbled tabby stopped in her movements, taking a deeper breath. The scent was very vaguely familiar and definitely not of Nightclan.
The apprentice lowered herself closer to the ground, completely ignoring the mouse when it finally came out of hiding a ran a mere tail-length in front of her. Her emerald eyes were too busy scanning the bushes for the strange cat.
